Considering Becoming a Surrogate?

Let our Surrogacy Lawyer Help!

For those who have fertility problems, surrogacy makes it possible to have a family. The child is genetically related to the intended mother and father. Embryos are implanted in the surrogate, and the surrogate gestates and gives birth to the child. A qualified surrogacy attorney at Steven H. Snyder & Associates drafts the contracts and other legal documents related to the surrogacy process.

Documentation

Certain documents are needed to start the surrogacy process, including:

  • Your birth certificate
  • Your driver’s license
  • Your social security card
  • Your passport (if applicable)
  • Two photos—a head shot and a full length photo
  • Obstetric records from your most recent pregnancy and delivery
  • Insurance documents
  • A clearance letter from your physician stating that you are fit to carry another pregnancy

Matching Process

There is a surrogate matching process. You will have to create a profile with general information about your physical characteristics, medical history, photos and other items. The length of time to find a match depends on your choices and the choices of intended parents. Depending on the intended parents, you may also donate your eggs to produce a child for a mother who is unable to produce eggs herself though you will want to speak with an egg donor attorney about your options.

Fertility Treatments

Once a potential surrogate has signed the contracts and other legal documents needed, completed the medical testing and a match is found, she begins the process for fertility treatments. The surrogacy center used for the treatments gives the surrogate detailed instructions to help prepare for the surrogacy. Fertility medications are also given.

The surrogate travels to the intended parents’ fertility clinic the day before the embryo transfer and returns home a day or two after the transfer. Appointments may be arranged through an experienced surrogacy attorney. The surrogacy lawyer makes sure the process goes as smoothly as possible for the surrogate.
