Considering Egg Donation or Using a Donated Egg?
Let our Egg Donation Lawyer Walk You Through the Process
An egg donation attorney at Steven H. Snyder & Associates helps families with fertility problems start a family. Working with the International Assisted Reproduction Center (IARC), we make the dream of having children a reality.
Egg Donor Criteria
There are certain criteria an egg donor must meet before she is able to donate her eggs. The criterion include, but are not limited to:
- An egg donor should be within a certain age range—usually 21 and 34—but the requirement may vary from clinic to clinic
- The donor must complete a medical history form
- The donor must complete a genetic questionnaire
- The donor must submit OB/GYN records and other medical records to the clinic
- The donor must undergo psychological screening and blood tests for sexually transmitted and genetic disease (and the donor’s partner, if applicable)
Egg donation helps women who cannot conceive with their own eggs, women who have no ovaries and women with a history of genetic disease. The benefit to the donor is that she knows she helped another woman achieve pregnancy. The donor is also paid for her time and effort.
The Process
Before the actual egg donation process begins, an egg donor attorney drafts and reviews an egg donation contract with you. He or she explains the legal process of egg donation to you.
The attorney helps you decide whether you want to have a co-parenting relationship with the potential mother and explains some of the other options involved in egg donation, such as insurance.
Once you have a signed contract, you then set up appointments at the clinic for hormonal therapy to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs. This process is monitored through blood tests and ultrasounds.
The egg retrieval process is a non-surgical procedure. It is usually performed using intravenous (IV) sedation. The entire egg retrieval process takes less than an hour in most cases. Once the eggs are retrieved, the embryologist fertilizes the donated eggs (in the laboratory) with sperm from the recipient’s partner or with donor sperm if the recipient is a single parent or part of a same-sex couple. The embryos are transferred to the uterus of the recipient.
